About the Form
Chum Kiu is the intermediate form of Wing Chun. The focus of the form is on developing an effective defence as well as counter-attack.
Whereas Siu Nim Tau is primarily a defensive routine, Chum Kiu looks at how to actively seek out the enemy¡¦s attacking hands (or ¡§bridges¡¨ in kung fu terminology) and disrupt their attack prior to it connecting, e.g. by throwing their punch off target. If a practitioner can consistently disrupt his or her opponent¡¦s attack, then he is effectively unbeatable ¡V Chum Kiu therefore studies disruption of enemy¡¦s attack from all angles using the principles of the Two Doors and Four Gates introduced in Siu Nim Tau.
Chum Kiu requires that the practitioner having developed a stable stance already. This is because the form introduces footwork that is based on the fundamental Kin Yeung stance, namely the Side Stance, the Forward Stance and the Arrow Step.
